The Aboriginal Friendship Centres of Saskatchewan (AFCS) in partnership with Saskatchewan History and Folklore Society (SHFS) is undergoing an oral history project. Capturing the history of Friendship Centres in Saskatchewan through storytelling will ensure we are able to honour our past while providing community services presently.
News articles, photos, and interviews with community members of both Friendship Centres in operation and past Friendship Centres will be used to share this unique history sharing resiliency, relationships and kindness of urban Indigenous people. During interviews we learn about the successes, challenges and fun stories that community members remember and that have shaped the movement to what it is today.
The information collected will be made into promotional materials such as commercials and an oral history booklet available to the public.
